Trying New Natural Hair Products

Ok, Naturals!  We have all been there or if you’re a transitioner or new natural you may still be there.  Trying out those new products because either you saw someone’s hair and how great it looked (they said they used that new Entwine Couture line) or you watched a product review and the reviewer said themselves that they had tried the product and it was the best thing since sliced bread.  Well let’s talk about trying out new products and the things that you should remember.

Are you finding yourself unhappy with natural tresses, kinks or twists?  Well check out these suggestions.

Give the products time to work!

There are many times that I have seen so-called product reviews, disastrous pics, or a natural hair product testimony that says that a particular product did not work.  I must say that it is found that a majority of the time it is user error.  In other words ladies, we have to give these products time to work.  Okay, yes sometimes we use a product and you may see immediate results.  But, that is not the case all of the time.  When trying out a new product you have to use the product more than once to determine if it is something that will work for your hair type.  This is what leads to those reviews and YouTube videos where you hear the user saying I would not buy this product again, telling other naturals to not use the product, and are dissatisfied with the product.  I know that there are so many things out there that lead us to believe that we have to try everything out there and that is just not the case.   All that we end up doing is living in an ever-changing regimen that never leads to finding the product that will work with our hair and help it to grow and remain healthy.

Change the Way You Use the Product

Don’t make the mistake of using a product once and then moving on saying “this did not work for me”.  Use the product again in a different way.  You may have tried the product on your dry hair or wet hair.  Use the product again and do the opposite of what you did the first time when the product did not seem to work.

Be aware that you should also pay close attention to your tresses to determine if their product is working for your hair type/texture.  There are many naturals out there who begin using a product and it is just awesome.  But, then later along the way it rebels!

Here are some tips on trying out those new products:

  • Try a product at least three times before you determine that it does not work for you
  • Try a new hair technique at least 5 times before you decide that it does not work for you
  • Then once you have reached a verdict, share that with others to possibly help with product and technique decisions

I am by no means an expert, but I have learned through trial and error.  I know that nothing happens over night.  It takes some time to discover and find that product works for you and it is rarely one product or a group of the same products.

Good luck in your product search.
