Well, if you don’t know already the Oscars will be happening on February 24, 2013, this Sunday. There is a very adorable 9-year-old young lady named Quvenzhané (kwah-ven-ja-nay) Wallis who has been nominated as best actress for her role in “Beasts of the Southern Wild”. For those of you who do not know how to say her name here is some help.
She is a very spunky little girl with adorable natural hair, she is sweet, and very intelligent. But if you haven’t already seen the interviews with her you have got to stop and check them out. She is the most confident little girl that I have seen in a long time. Especially, with her natural hair style. Quvenzhane’ is the youngest to be nominated in her in this category.
Her mother Qulyndreia, is a teacher, and her father Venjie Wallis, Sr., is a truck driver. The first part of her name combines her parents’ first names. Her mother stated that zhane means “fairy” in Swahili. Quvenzhané. It is a very unique name.
This little actress obviously had what it took to be on the big screen, because she auditioned among 4,000 other children. I am going to guess that all that spunk and sass she has helped her to stand out in the crown.
In an interview with Time.com, Quvenzhane talks about enduring stringent swampland film set.
I don’t want the Oscars all the time, but when I do I love seeing the red carpet to find out who was wearing what designer and who came with whom. But I think that I will watch on Sunday for Quvenzhane. I hope she wins and if not I am still very proud of her and shout out a big congratulations!
